A man has presented irrefutable evidence of his wife being a "cover hog" after years of denials on her part.
In a post shared to Reddit under the handle u/LowerBoomBoom, a happily married man of 10 years, who requested that his name be omitted from the story and he be referred to as LBB, offered up proof of the situation he says he faces on an almost-nightly basis.
"It was about a month into our marriage that I came to the realization she was hogging the covers; about a few months later, I concluded that she did this all in her sleep," LBB told Newsweek.
Previous research from the Better Sleep Council, based on a statistically representative sample of over 500 U.S. adults, found that around 1 in 3 felt their sleeping partner negatively impacted the amount of rest they enjoyed.
LBB's wife refuses to accept she is negatively impacting his sleep. "After 10 years of marriage my wife still refuses to admit she has been and continues to be a cover hog," he said.
So, when LBB noticed the same thing happening all over again the other night, he took a photo and posted it to Reddit. It got a huge response, earning over 20,000 upvotes and "I think a lot of people must've related to having a cover hog in their beds," LBB said.
Though plenty shared LBB's frustrations and offered up similar personal experiences, an interesting trend also emerged in the comments under the picture. "What's crazy is going 10 years without just buying a second comforter?" one asked. "2 blankets, that's the tweet. Not one over the other either—one on each side."
Another wrote: "Me and my wife have separate blankets and it's a win for sure." A third posted: "Been doing it for years. Mainly because my wife likes to bake at night, and I like to jump around like a crocodile."
This response caught LBB off-guard. "I was surprised by how many people said they have separate covers in the same bed," he said. They weren't the only comments that had his eyebrows raised either. "Some even said their dogs are cover hogs," he said.
Ultimately, the only opinion that truly mattered when it came to the picture, however, was his wife's. Just as before, she rejected his claims.
"I had brought this to her attention along with my evidence, and she completely denied all allegations of being a sleeping cover hog," LBB said. "To this day, 10 years later, she still denies my allegations and thinks that I am setting her up for a marital crime that she had never committed."
To her way of thinking, the whole thing is fake news. "She said, either I staged the scene or used Photoshop," LBB said. "This is one of those 'choose your battles' moments, but not only have I lost every battle but I have lost the war."
Despite his understandable frustrations, though, LBB is keen to stress the post is intended primarily as fun. "Even though I am mildly infuriated over this, it's not the end of one's marriage or relationship," he said. "I hope that most people at least chuckled when reading my post; it was meant to be humorous."
