Actually, Elon Musk Has More Kids Than You Think

Elon Musk is one of the richest men in the world. The CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and many other businesses famously has two children with singer-songwriter Grimes but did you know he has six other children?

In a 2010 personal essay for Insider, he admitted that he doesn't like people knowing about his personal life.

"Much as one may wish for privacy, in the 21st century it just doesn't exist," he said, adding how important his children are. "Almost all of my non-work waking hours are spent with my boys, and they are the love of my life."

Here's what we know about Elon Musk's eight children.

Nevada Alexander

Musk and first wife, Justine Wilson, welcomed a baby boy in 2002 who tragically passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

"Nevada went down for a nap, placed on his back as always, and stopped breathing. He was 10 weeks old," Wilson wrote in a letter featured in Marie Claire. "By the time the paramedics resuscitated him, he had been deprived of oxygen for so long that he was brain-dead. He spent three days on life support in a hospital in Orange County before we made the decision to take him off it. I held him in my arms when he died."

Xavier and Griffin

Musk's mother, Maye, wrote a heartfelt message about her son's for father's day on Twitter back in 2020.

"I knew one day they would be great fathers," she wrote. The accompanying picture featured Musk holding his twin sons.

Damian, Kai, and Saxon

Though Wilson nor Musk talk about their children, Wilson did just that during a 2017 TedTalk when she admitted she and Musk had three triplets together using IVF (in vitro fertilization).

X Æ A-12

Grimes and Musk welcomed their first child, X Æ A-12 (X for short) mid-pandemic in May of 2020. Grime's took to social media to explain the meaning behind the string of letters and numbers.

Exa Dark Sideræl

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Grimes revealed she and Musk recently welcomed their second child via surrogate. Exa Dark Sideræl (pronounced "sigh-deer-ee-el") Musk was born in December of 2021. She elaborated on the meaning behind the name explaining that Exa is a complex term for a supercomputer and dark is for "the unknown." They call Exa "Y." Sideræl is inspired by Grime's favorite character from Lord of the Rings, Galadriel.

"People fear it but truly it's the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe," Grimes said.

The singer added she and Musk plan to have more children together in the future.
