There are some downsides to sharing a name with a famous professional athlete.
Just ask Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Josh Allen, who is plenty talented in his own right. The 26-year-old former first-round pick has seven sacks in seven games so far this season, and the Jaguars are on a four-game winning streak that has propelled them to a 5-2 record atop the AFC South.
Still, the Josh Allen who gets the most headlines and TV airtime remains the Buffalo Bills star quarterback of the same name. When Amazon's Thursday Night Football broadcast started talking about the Jaguars' Allen during their game against the New Orleans Saints, the wrong player apparently got cued up.

"I look at Josh Allen," analyst Andrew Whitworth started saying. "This is the guy for the Jacksonville Jaguars.... Not that Josh Allen. That's the wrong Josh Allen, guys. I'm sorry. We'll get back to the real Josh Allen that plays for this Jacksonville Jaguars team."

Later in the contest, the Jaguars' Allen got some camera time. Jacksonville picked off Derek Carr with 6:47 left in the third quarter and ran the ball back into the end zone to take a 24-9 lead. When a camera panned to the end zone, Allen found it.

The two Allens have faced off twice in the past, and the Jaguars' Allen won the matchup both times. The first came in 2021, when the Jaguars claimed a 9-6 defensive slugfest. The Jaguars' Allen submitted a huge performance, recording a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception.
The second meeting between the Allens came two weeks ago when the Bills and the Jaguars faced off in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Jaguars' Allen, who wore a microphone for Bleacher Report, came close to sacking the Bills' quarterback but couldn't quite get his hands on him. Still, he recorded a tackle, and the Jaguars came away with a 25-20 victory. The Bills' Allen finished 27-for-40 as a passer, with two touchdowns and an interception.
Before the game in London, the Bills' Allen expressed respect (and a healthy level of fear) for his 255-pound Jaguars counterpart.
"He scares me," Allen said, smiling. "He got me last time we played. He's coming off a really good week too. He's a baller, man. He's still considered kind of a young guy in this league, but he's playing really good football right now, and their defensive group right now is playing at a high level."
