Fans Find Old Quotes As Amber Heard Says She 'Wasn't a Fan' of Johnny Depp

Amber Heard finally took to the stand in court on Wednesday, and in her testimony described how she "wasn't a fan of [Johnny Depp's] work" before they met but fans of the actor have pointed out times when she has contradicted this statement.

The multimillion-dollar trial of the former married couple continues this week in Fairfax, Virginia as millions of viewers around the world watch the proceedings and ugly details of their tumultuous marriage play out.

Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million for defamation over a December 2018 op-ed published in The Washington Post titled "I spoke up against sexual violence—and faced our culture's wrath. That has to change." While Heard is countersuing for $100 million for nuisance.

On Wednesday it was finally the turn of Heard, who took the stand and described her "unusual and remarkable" first meeting with Depp before filming the movie The Rum Diary.

The two met after Heard had auditioned for her role a couple of times, and said she was told that the film based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel was important to Depp and she was asked to meet him.

"We talked about books, and music, poetry. We liked a lot of the same stuff, obscure writers ... pieces of poetry I hadn't heard anyone else reference," she told the jury.

"I think I left the office with a few books that he gave me," she added.

"I knew who he was, I wasn't a fan of his work, I wasn't familiar with him, but I knew who he was," she said. "I'm a no-name actor, I was 22, I think...He was twice my age, a world-famous actor."

The trial has played out largely on social media, with several stand-out moments going viral with Heard and Depp's every move scrutinized by fans and critics.

Heard's statement about not being familiar Depp—then one of the world's biggest movie stars—has drawn ire from his loyal supporters who have pointed out instances when Heard spoke of being a fan of him before they met or began a relationship.

In a 2011 interview with Black Book, Heard revealed it was "surreal" filming a love scene with Depp in The Rum Diary because she "grew up watching his movies."

"I grew up watching his movies, so it was a little surreal, but I very much become my characters while I'm working," she said at the time.

One fan shared a screenshot of the interview on Wednesday, in a tweet that amassed more than 5,000 likes.

While other social media users have dug up a photo of Heard on the red carpet for the 2009 Depp movie, Public Enemies.
