Amber Heard's sister has branded the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards "disgusting" after Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance at the show.
Whitney Heard (also known as Whitney Henriquez) has been a vocal supporter of her sister through her legal battle against the Pirates of the Caribbean star who emerged victorious from their defamation trial earlier this year.
"@MTV you're disgusting and clearly desperate!" Henriquez wrote in her Instagram stories following the show. "I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters..."
She also shared a graphic made by Heard supporters that read "I stand with Amber Heard," along with the hashtag "#DVMAs." DV stands for domestic violence.
Depp, 59, made a quick cameo at the awards show on Sunday, August 28, with his face digitally projected onto the network's mascot, the Moon Man.
"Guess who? #VMAs," he captioned a video of himself on Instagram.
While floating high above the stage, Depp joked he "needed the work."
"I just want you guys to know I'm available for birthdays, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes—any old thing you need," he said, appearing to poke fun at himself.

The appearance comes after a jury sided with Depp in June and he was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Heard was given $2 million for her counter suit in compensatory damages, but no punitive damages.
The trial and its outcome have proven divisive and fans of both stars continue to clash on social media.

Henriquez testified on behalf of her sister during the multimillion-dollar defamation trial in Fairfax, Virginia earlier this year.
After the verdict was announced, Henriquez promised to stick by her sister, and shared a statement reading: "I still stand with you, sissy," adding that she is "so proud of" Heard for testifying.
"We knew that this was going to be an uphill battle and that the cards were stacked against us. But you stood up and spoke out regardless. I am so honored to testify for you, and I would do it a million times over because I know what I saw and because the truth is forever on your side. I'm so sorry that it wasn't reflected in the decision made by this jury, but I will never give up on you, and neither will anyone who stands with you."
