Dr. Anthony Fauci and other members of the White House's coronavirus task force are due to testify before the Senate Health Committee on the country's response to the outbreak.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will talk at the hearing about how states across the U.S. can safely reopen to the public.

Also testifying at the hearing will be Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Robert Kadlec, assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the Department of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Stephen Hahn, commissioner for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

All four will appear at the hearing via videolink Fauci is currently undergoing a "modified quarantine" after being exposed to a White House staff member who has tested positive for the virus, with Hahn also self-isolating.

"After consulting with Dr. Fauci, and in an abundance of caution for our witnesses, senators, and the staff, all four Administration witnesses will appear by video conference due to these unusual circumstances," Senator Lamar Alexander, the chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, confirmed in a statement.

It is unclear who the White House staff who the task force members had "low risk" contact with is, but Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary Katie Miller has tested positive for COVID-19.

The hearing takes place after Fauci voiced concerns that there may need to be more than one vaccine for the virus in order to keep up with the expected demand.

"There is an unprecedented need to manufacture and distribute enough safe and effective vaccine to immunize an extraordinarily large number of individuals," Fauci wrote in a co-authored paper published in the journal Science.

"No single vaccine or vaccine platform alone is likely to meet the global need, and so a strategic approach to the multi-pronged endeavor is absolutely critical."

There are more than 1.3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S., with 80,684 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. A total of 232,733 people have managed to recover from the virus.
