AOC Rips Marjorie Taylor Greene's 'Insurrection' Claim as Roe Feud Heats Up

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's claim that she was inspiring "insurrection" by encouraging protests as the congresswomen argued over the reversal of Roe v. Wade.

Greene, a Georgia Republican, tweeted on Friday that Ocasio-Cortez had "launched an insurrection" by calling for abortion-rights supporters to protest the Supreme Court striking down the landmark 1973 ruling, adding that "any violence and rioting is a direct result of Democrat marching orders." The New York Democrat soon hit back, suggesting that Greene was guilty of attempting to "overturn democracy" and alluded to recent claims that she had attempted to secure a pardon from former President Donald Trump following the January 6 Capitol riot.

"I will explain this to you slowly: exercising our right to protest is not obstruction of Congress nor an attempt to overturn democracy," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "If one were a heinous enough person to do that, they'd likely seek a pardon for it too. But only one of us here has done that. And it ain't me."

Greene has accused the House January 6 select committee of "spreading gossip and lies" in response to the claim that she asked for a pardon. Greene did not directly address the issue while responding to Ocasio-Cortez's tweet a short time later.

However, Greene did accuse her Democratic rival of supporting "baby killing riots" and asked her to instead "explain" why she was a "shill" for the war in Ukraine and was not pushing for classified document leakers Julian Assange and Edward Snowden to be pardoned.

"How about you explain slowly why you won't support a pardon for Julian Assange and Edward Snowden," tweeted Greene. "And then continue to explain why you are a shill for the [military industrial complex] funding war in Ukraine. Or are you too busy organizing baby killing riots?"

Greene's original tweet included a video of Ocasio-Cortez chanting "illegitimate" and "into the streets" alongside protesters outside the Supreme Court. Earlier in the day, tweets from the progressive lawmaker said that it was "the time to organize" and that "we will never stop until abortion rights are restored in the United States of America."

Ocasio-Cortez's support for protesting the decision has not included any calls for violence or rioting. However, the unrelated group Jane's Revenge, which formed after the Court's majority draft opinion on Roe leaked last month, has vowed a "night of rage" in Washington, D.C., over the decision.

"The night SCOTUS overturns Roe v. Wade hit the streets you said you'd riot," a flyer reportedly distributed in the city by the group reads. "To our oppressors: if abortions aren't safe, you're not either."
