An alleged armed robber in Ohio reportedly made his alleged victim "pinky promise" not to call the cops after he fled the scene, the authorities say.

According to a police report quoted by WKBN, the unusual exchange happened after a 22-year-old man was robbed of $80 near a Pit Stop gas station in Warren, south of Cleveland.

The incident occurred at around 10:40 P.M. on Sunday, March 27. The news outlet said that the man was approached by his alleged assailant while walking along Youngstown Road SE.

According to the police report, the victim was unable to provide a good description of the alleged robber, who was said to have been wearing a ski mask at the time of the incident.

The victim told the authorities he was initially approached by the man who asked whether he was a drug dealer. He said that when he told him he was not, the robber revealed he was carrying a pocket knife and demanded he hand over cash.

The report quoted by WKBN states that the robber made off with around $80—but not before he got his alleged victim to make a "pinky promise" not to call the police.

He then fled the scene on a bicycle.

Despite making the promise, his victim contacted the authorities soon after. Police later arrived on the scene and conducted a search of the area around the Pit Stop, but could find no sign of the man on the bicycle.

Newsweek has contacted the City of Warren police department for comment.

The unusual crime comes days after another armed robber was arrested in bizarre fashion in Detroit. Chozen Hannah was apprehended by FBI officers in relation to the armed robbery of two 7-Eleven stores along with a Marathon gas station and an Old West Tobacco.

The arrest came after police were tipped off about a series of TikTok videos posted online by Hannah which showed him wearing a set of distinctive shoes and a hair color matching a description provided by one eyewitness at the scene of one of the robberies.

In another unusual crime story, an 11-year-old boy in Chicago was charged over an armed carjacking after the alleged incident was recorded by a doorbell camera.

The boy was arrested in late January on charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking and criminal trespass to property.

Meanwhile, last year, dramatic footage from Brazil surfaced online of a man successfully foiling an armed robbery at his clinic. The off-duty police officer had gone in to get a tooth fixed but ended up disarming two knife-wielding assailants.
