Doctors have saved the life of a baby after a pregnant woman was shot dead in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, in one of latest violent incidents in the city.
Police have not yet provided information about the identity of the woman or how far along her pregnancy was. However, doctors were able to successfully save the life of the unborn infant.
Officers found the woman with a gunshot wound to the head and discovered the child that the woman was carrying was still alive.
Police brought them to Temple University Hospital.

The shooting took place on Saturday morning at around 1a.m. E.T. near Richmond Street and Wheatsheaf Lane, according to a report from NBC Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Police Department believes the suspected shooter left the scene in a dark-colored black or blue Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Charger, and was last seen toward Aramingo Avenue.
No arrests have yet been made.
Pennsylvania has experienced several recent deaths arising from gun violence, including the killing of two women and an unborn child in a car over the Memorial Day weekend.
The deaths reportedly took place after a domestic dispute in Chester County and a suspect was arrested. The suspect had allegedly stolen a car at gunpoint and was involved in a chase with police.
A 10-year-old boy was killed along with his father in a drive-by shooting in Philadelphia on May 29 in a parked car just outside their home in the Wissinoming area in the northeast of the city.
The 38-year-old man was killed when at least 13 rounds were fired at the vehicle from two different weapons in another car. Both the father and son were hit multiple times and taken to separate hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
In a separate incident in Pittsburgh, a one-year-old child was killed in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting on May 29 at an intersection near Market Square and the PPG Place complex. The child was pronounced dead at the scene and it was not clear whether there was any connection between the child and the suspected shooter.
At least eight other people were killed in Pennsylvania over the Memorial Day weekend, including two women shot to death at a party in Port Richmond early Monday morning, while a 14-year-old girl was also injured.
The fatal shootings come at a time when much of the nation's focus has been on tragic mass shootings at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas and a Topps supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
Newsweek has asked the Philadelphia Police Department for comment.
