Bargain Hunt, the Nashville-based discount retail chain, has announced the closure of all 92 of its locations across 10 states, marking the end of its operations amid financial struggles.

The company has launched going-out-of-business sales with discounts of up to 40 percent as it prepares to cease operations by the end of February.

The closure comes just days after the company filed for bankruptcy and follows the recent announcement that its Tennessee distribution center in Antioch would also be shutting down, impacting nearly 300 jobs.

Why Are Bargain Hunt Stores Closing?

Bargain Hunt, known for selling discounted merchandise across various categories such as appliances, clothing, groceries, sports gear, and holiday items, did not provide a specific reason for the closures beyond its bankruptcy filing.

However, the company has encouraged customers to take advantage of the clearance sales while stores remain open.

Ian Fredericks, president of Hilco Merchant Resources, which is managing the liquidation, urged customers to shop early.

"Stores are stocked, and new merchandise continues to arrive at deeply discounted prices," Fredericks said. "We recommend shopping immediately for the best selection as this sale won't last long."

As part of the liquidation process, Bargain Hunt has set a February 12 deadline for customers to use any remaining gift cards before stores shut their doors permanently.

Bargain Hunt's closure is part of a larger trend of retail struggles in the U.S., with several major chains also shutting down locations.

Macy's is closing 66 stores in 2025 as part of a restructuring plan. The closures will impact stores across 22 states, including California, Florida, New York, and Tennessee.

Big Lots is shutting down nearly 300 more stores this year following its 2024 bankruptcy filing.

Where Are Bargain Hunt Stores Located?

Bargain Hunt operates stores in the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Georgia
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee

Tennessee has the largest concentration, with 31 locations, including three in Knoxville, as well as stores in Morristown and Maryville.

Several Mid-South stores, including those in Memphis, Cordova, Bartlett, and Southaven, are also on the closure list.

The company's decision to close will likely come as a blow to discount shoppers who relied on Bargain Hunt for bargain-priced items.

The liquidation sales are expected to continue until the inventory is depleted, with all locations closing permanently by the end of February.
