The DC Universe has many famous villains, including The Penguin, Harley Quinn and The Joker.

And now it's Poison Ivy's turn to take the spotlight in CW's Batwoman series as the channel confirmed they had cast the character for Season 3.

Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy, is set to make her debut as an adversary of Javicia Leslie's Ryan Wilder in the forthcoming season.

In a press statement revealed to SyFy, it was announced that Bridget Regan would be taking on the role of the big bad.

Isley is described as a "former botany student of Gotham University, who was a passionate, brilliant scientist with a mind for changing the world for the better."

But, following an experiment that saw her get injected with various plant toxins, Isley plans to achieve her goals and do what she thinks is right by any means necessary.

Poison Ivy has proved a key adversary of Batman in the DC comics and its other media, with the character previously being portrayed in live-action by Uma Thurman in the ill-received 1997 Batman & Robin film.

Regan has previously appeared in shows like Agent Carter, Jane the Virgin and Paradise Lost.

In Agent Carter, Regan portrayed a Soviet sleeper agent named Dottie Underwood who was also one of the first to come out of the Black Widow program.

Isley won't be the only character that Wilder and the Bat Team have to contend with, as Renee Montoya will also make an appearance as a series regular.

The character will be played by Victoria Cartagena, who previously portrayed her in the Fox TV show Gotham.

In it the police officer was a member of the Major Crimes Unit of the Gotham City Police Department, who investigated Detective Jim Gordon over the supposed death of Oswald Cobblepot.

While Cartagena will be reprising her role, it is currently unclear if both versions of the character will be connected in the two TV shows or not.

She is joined by Robin Givens and Nick Creegan, who will portray Jada and Marquis Jet respectively.

Leslie took over the titular role of Batwoman following Ruby Rose's exit from the show following the first season, where she portrayed Bruce Wayne's cousin Kate Kane.

Her departure was explained by her setting out on a quest to find Wayne after he goes missing, with Leslie's former convict Wilder taking the moniker in her place.

Batwoman Season 3 is set to premiere on The CW on October 13.
