Big Sky Episode 16 will bring the first season of the ABC show to a close on May 18, with the promo for the finale teasing a big confrontation between Jenny (played by Katheryn Winnick), Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) and Ronald (Brian Geraghty). That finale is sure to end on a massive cliffhanger (and knowing Big Sky, a major character death) that will leave fans wondering whether the show will be back for Season 2.

Is there going to be another season of Big Sky?

Good news going into the finale. Big Sky may pull off another character death twist like the one it did at the start of the show with Cody (Ryan Phillippe), but the show itself is set to live another day.

Back at the start of May, the show was renewed for ABC for Season 2, as the network began announcing that its biggest shows like The Good Doctor and Grey's Anatomy were coming back. This means that Big Sky is likely to be back this September at the start of the next TV season.

This comes after the show was a ratings hit for the network. The series was the sixth most-watched scripted show on the network this year, behind Grey's Anatomy, Station 19, The Good Doctor, The Rookie and The Connors. The show was also sixth in among the 18 to 49 demographic that is key to advertisers.

With Season 2, there will be some changes behind the scenes of the show. The series was created by David E. Kelley, the producer behind recent hits like The Undoing and Big Little Lies. Kelley, however, is moving on to two new shows–Nine Perfect Strangers for Hulu (from a book from Big Little Lies writer Liane Moriarty) and a Netflix version of The Lincoln Lawyer. His spot as showrunner will be taken by Elwood Reid, who previously worked on CBS' Hawaii Five-O reboot and Showtime's The Chi.

The show is based on a series of books by C.J. Box. The first season was actually based on the second novel, The Highway, which saw Cassie take over from Cody as the main character.

Season 2 could take inspiration from the third book, Badlands, which sees Cassie becoming deputy sheriff of a town in North Dakota that has just struck oil and is in the midst of a gang war. It could also take inspiration from the next book Paradise Valley, which sees Cassie on the hunt for a serial killer called the Lizard King. Alternatively, the show could depart from the book so as to keep the action in Montana.

Katheryn Winnick hinted at what fans can expect in an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan. She said, "we're getting a complete different cast...every six or seven episodes, and then we switch over, so there's going to be [a] constant flow of new ideas and fresh faces and new storylines...there should be at least two or three storylines a season."

Big Sky Season 1 is streaming now on the ABC website and Hulu. The season finale airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT on ABC.
