"Donald Trump didn't attend Joe Biden's inauguration. Rosalynn Carter wanted Melania Trump to attend her funeral. See the difference?" Baldwin, a long-time Donald Trump critic posted.

Melania Trump attended the funeral alongside other former first ladies, including Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush. Former President Bill Clinton and current President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were also in attendance.

People reacted to Baldwin's post on X, formerly Twitter, which has gone viral with more than 250,000 views.

"Rosalynn Carter was the epitome of kindness, caring, grace, and tolerance. She was a class act!" posted one person.

TV reporter Tahir Chaudhary added: "Trump skipped Biden's inauguration, a notable break from tradition. On a different note, credit to Rosalynn Carter's bipartisan spirit for expressing a desire to have Melania Trump attend her funeral, showcasing a unique and inclusive approach."

And a third wrote: "OH S*** someone just made sense. I KNOW it's rare, huh."

Melania Trump's former close friend and aide accused her of using Carter's funeral as a "photo op."

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, an American fashion and entertainment executive and former senior adviser to Trump made the controversial statement on Wednesday.

"Melania Trump knew every time she made a public appearance, 'a picture would be worth a thousand words,'" she posted to X.

"In Melania's case, the picture would have to do all the talking. This time is no different! Melania made this service a photo op for herself, instead of handling her appearance with dignity and humility, she used it as a cat walk.

"Rosalynn Carter, is a national treasure who exemplified a life of humanitarian service with a spirit of generosity, dignity and compassion for all of God's children. May she rest in peace."

Newsweek has reached out to Melania Trump via email for comment.

Melania Trump's attendance at the funeral was a rare public outing for her as she has only been seen publicly on a few occasions this year.

She has been noticeably absent from her husband's multiple court appearances and recent campaign stops.

However, she did make appear last month at a Halloween party at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump's Florida estate, where she was photographed alongside him for the first time in seven months.
