Biz Markie's family has asked for "thoughts and prayers" as the rapper remains hospitalized.

False reports of the 57-year-old's death spread through social media earlier this week, with his management confirming he is still alive but is seriously ill and receiving care in hospital.

His manager, Jenni Izumi, told Newsweek that the New York rapper is surrounded by family who have been touched by the outpouring of support from fans and are asking for thoughts and prayers at this tough time.

"The news of Biz Markie's passing is not true," Izumi said in an email. "Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best healthcare possible. Biz's wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers and fans alike."

Izumi added: "We ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Fellow rapper Big Daddy Kane also confirmed that his friend is still alive following the death rumors.

"Biz Markie is alive, please keep my brother in your prayers," he said in a video posted to Instagram.

"Yes, he has some serious health issues, but he's still alive," he said. "And his wife would like y'all to respect his privacy. And remember, it's better for you to get the news correct than get the news first. Check your facts, people. And Wikipedia, do better. Keep my brother Biz in your prayers."

A number of celebrities responded to Big Daddy Kane's post, with Beastie Boys' DJ Hurricane, D-Nice and Snoop Dogg leaving comments.

"Get the news correct before you spread the news. @officialbizmarkie. We love you and [prayers] for you," DJ Hurricane wrote, while Snoop Dogg sent his love.

J.J. Fad added: "Thank you and Thank God!! I miss my brother so much!!!!"

The rap legend—given name Marcel Theo Hall—suffered a stroke earlier in 2021, but it is unclear if this is why is receiving treatment now.

He was reportedly hospitalized twice in 2020 due to complications with type II diabetes.

Big Daddy Kane previously revealed that Biz Markie was recovering from a stroke but said he is "getting better" in April 2020.

"He's in rehabilitation now. He's getting better and stronger every day," Kane told The Breakfast Club.

"Last time I talked to him on the phone, he got a real light voice, but last time I talked on the phone. He stuck his middle finger up at me, so I think he's coming along."
