The bodies of three children and one adult found in an Indianapolis pond were confirmed as family members who went missing, according to authorities.

Per the Associated Press, the Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed that the bodies belonged to 27-year-old Kyle Moorman and his three children: Kyran Holland, 1; Kyannah Holland, 2; and Kyle Moorman II, 5.

Kyle Moorman and his three children were recently reported missing.

According to the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, at around 7:30 p.m. local time Tuesday, officers received a call for a report of a possible deceased person in a pond near the 2900 block of Bluff Road.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male in the water. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The discovery prompted law enforcement authorities to continue searching the pond with assistance from the Indianapolis Fire Department Dive Team and the Department of Natural Resources. Using sonar technology, officials located a vehicle in the water.

"That vehicle was pulled from the water and three young children were found inside. The vehicle pulled from the water was a black Saab. This currently stands as a death investigation," the Indianapolis Metro Police Department said in a Facebook post.

According to WTHR, family members said that Moorman and his three children were last seen driving in a black 2009 Saab near the 1000 block of South Sherman Drive. Moorman reportedly told family members that he was taking his children fishing last Wednesday night.

However, per WTHR, last Thursday, police said that Moorman's phone was pinged at the pond near Bluff Road.

Prior to the announcement from the coroner's office, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department did not confirm that the bodies were that of the missing Moorman family members but said: "Based upon information available to detectives and evidence collected at the scene, there is a commonality with the Moorman family missing persons investigation."

"Detectives are working to piece together what led up to this incident," police added.

While speaking to reporters following the discovery, a spokesperson for the Indianapolis Metro Police Department said at the time: "We are still working to positively identify the individuals involved, but there is commonality with the Moorman family."

The spokesperson continued: "We can't verify in fact that Kyle Moorman and his three children...were inside that car or in the pond but at this point, all signs point to them. We want to extend our condolences to the family and friends hurting tonight, knowing their loved ones are no longer with us."

Newsweek was directed to the spokesperson's remarks after reaching out to the Indianapolis Metro Police Department for comment. Newsweek also reached out to the Marion County Coroner's Office for further comment.

Update 7/13/22, 2:55 p.m. ET: This story was updated with further information on the confirmed identities of the bodies found.
