A body was found in Lake Piru on Monday morning as authorities continued to search for missing Glee actor Naya Rivera. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department revealed the news in a Tweet.

"Happening now: A body has been found at Lake Piru this morning. The recovery is in progress," the tweet read. It went on to state that "A news conference will take place at 2 pm at the lake."

There was no formal confirmation that the body, which has yet to be recovered, belongs to Rivera.

The 33-year-old actor, who played Santana Lopez on the hit musical show, went missing on Wednesday night in Lake Piru while she was apparently boating with her four-year-old son. The son was found safely on a boat, and Rivera was soon after presumed dead.

Rivera and her son, Josey Dorsey, rented the boat on Wednesday, and it was found drifting without Rivera later that evening. Josey, found alone on the boat, told authorities his mother went swimming in the lake, but never returned to the boat, CNN reported Thursday. Josey was swimming as well, while wearing a life jacket, and returned safely to the boat. The lake was closed to the public Thursday morning for divers to search the water.

From the early missing person's report on Wednesday night, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department kept Twitter users up to date. "The missing person at Lake Puru has been identified as Naya Rivera, 33, of Los Angeles," they tweeted on Wednesday along with a video of a helicopter searching the lake. "SAR operation will continue at first light."

They first tweeted that there was a "possible drowning victim" on the lake, without naming Rivera as the missing person.

Celebrities flocked to sent prayers and well wishes for Rivera's safe recovery. Fellow Glee star Heather Morris tweeted for positivity. "We need all the prayers we can get to bring our Naya back home to us. We need your love and light," she wrote.

Singer Demi Lovato also issued a note about her friend. "Please pray for @nayarivera to be found safe and sound," she wrote in an Instagram story.

Rivera welcomed her son, Josey, during her marriage to actor Ryan Dorsey. The pair tied the knot in 2014 but divorced in 2018. She was also engaged to musician Big Sean shortly before her marriage to Dorsey, though the pair broke their engagement after six months in 2014.

In addition to her role on Glee, she acted in Step Up: High Water, The Bernie Mac Show and The Royal Family, among others.
