Fast food restaurant Bojangles, which can be found in many Southern states, is giving away $1 million in gas as Americans continue to deal with soaring prices at the pump, the company announced Monday.
Starting Monday, April 4, any customer who purchases a 12 or 20 piece bone-in chicken Bojangles Family Meal will receive a $10 gas gift card, so long as supplies last, the company said in a statement.
Jackie Woodward, Bojangles Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, wrote in the statement that the company doesn't "want anyone to have to choose between enjoying a delicious meal with the family or buying gas," adding, "Southerners are known for being friendly neighbors, so as a Southern brand, it's in our DNA to want to help our customers who are feeling the pain of soaring gas prices."
Family Meals featuring Chicken Supremes and delivery orders are not eligible for the initiative, the statement said.

Gas prices on Monday averaged $4.189 per gallon, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). The number represents a slight decrease from a month ago, when prices were $4.246 per gallon, but still much higher than a year ago, when prices averaged $2.873 per gallon.
Gas prices in California, where they are the highest, reached an average of $5.854 per gallon, according to AAA.
Prices have skyrocketed during the past month amid inflation and the Russia-Ukraine war. The issue has become political, with Republicans seeking to blame the Biden administration for the high prices, which have forced U.S. leaders and businesses to initiate new ways to try to alleviate the burden.
President Joe Biden announced last week that he would release 1 million additional barrels of oil daily from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which experts said will provide some relief. The price per barrel decreased following the president's announcement.
In Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced last Thursday that the city would distribute thousands of gas and public transit cards to residents through a lottery system. The initiative totals $12.5 million, and the city will give out 50,000 cards with $150 that can be used at Chicago gas stations.
Newsweek reached out to Bojangles for further comment Monday afternoon, but did not hear back by publication. This story will be updated with any response.
