The boyfriend of a woman in the U.K. has been heavily criticized on TikTok for packing a less than practical hospital bag for her as she enters the hospital at 33 weeks pregnant, with one user describing it as "weaponized incompetence."

In the video, which has been viewed nearly 3 million times, Holly Bolton, who goes by @hollybolton0 on the app, goes through the bag which includes: "A toothbrush and very empty tube of toothpaste, trackies in 33-degree heat, contact lens case but no solution, facewipes and deodorant, his clothes—at least I have shorts, old thongs which are too small."

In a previous video, Holly posted about the importance of preparing your hospital bag when pregnant, saying: "Take this as your sign to pack that hospital bag. 33 weeks. Came in with on and off cramping and back pains. Had a positive fetal fibronectin test meaning increased chance of pre-term labor. Now in for two nights on monitoring and steroid shots to help baby girl's lungs."

The term "hospital bag" is widely searched on Google and the hashtag #hospitalbag has 325.2 million views on TikTok.

The British National Health Service (NHS) suggests that you get everything you need to go into hospital at least three weeks before your due date.

The NHS suggests you include items such as:

  • Two or three comfortable and supportive bras, including nursing bras if you're planning to breastfeed—remember, your breasts will be much larger than usual.
  • Your washbag with a toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, lip balm, deodorant, hair ties and other toiletries.
  • Two packets of super-absorbent sanitary or maternity pads.
  • Five or six pairs of knickers—you may want to bring some disposable ones.
  • Something loose and comfortable to wear during labor that does not restrict you from moving around or make you too hot.
  • A car seat for the trip home.
  • Plenty of nappies.
  • An outfit for going home in, for you and baby.

Many users in the comments were less than sympathetic and condemned the boyfriend's efforts, despite Holly's assurance that he was trying his best.

One person commented: "Divorce. That's my rating. F cause this was min effort. And now I'm yelling at my husband to not do this."

While another wrote: "Guys, he was panicking okay [loudly crying face emoji] he left work, rushed home, and tried to get to me as quickly as possible."

Hana Jakofčič commented: "'Aw he tried his best tho'—did he? Did he really?"

Rebecca Lynn6438 commented: "What? Y'all's bar is low if this is 'trying.'"

Antea commented: "Was he blindfolded or drunk?"

Multiple people argued that he could have searched online for what to include in the bag, with user Rihanna pls call me writing: "Does he not have a smartphone? He couldn't just google what to pack???"
