The first season of The Boys premiered less than a month ago, but Season 2 of the Amazon series is already deep into post-production. Speaking with Collider, The Boys producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg described watching a rough cut of the second season premiere.

"Yes, they already have more resources for the second season and they are adding more characters. The scope of the show organically grows as the show continues," Rogen said. "And we just watched the first episode of the second season this weekend. It was a wonderful thing—as producers, we were like, 'This is way better than I ever could have hoped.'"

By the end of the first season of The Boys, Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys have devastated Vought, but the superpowered corporation is sure to strike back in Season 2. Vought CEO Mr. Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) has numerous other superhero teams at his disposal, including Payback (one Payback member may be hidden throughout Season 1). Lead by a neo-Nazi named Stormfront in the original comics, the character will be played by Aya Cash (You're the Worst) in upcoming episodes. The Seven may be in disarray, but remain a major threat, with Homelander (Antony Starr) more dangerous than ever.

According to Goldberg, Season 2 is a step up from the first season because of more than its expanding cast, but also on a host of more subjective measures. "It's definitely better than the first season, immediately," Goldberg told Collider. "It just looks a bit better, feels bigger, the actors all know what they're doing."

"I think with a show like The Boys especially, where the tone is so unique, for the actors to be able to watch the show and to see 'Oh that's what it is. It allows them to come back just completely locked into it," Rogen said.

Kripke earlier shared a photo from the set of The Boys Season 2, which indicates the upcoming season will be as bloody as ever.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke confirmed a few other details about the upcoming season, including the first appearance of Butcher's bulldog Terror. Kripke also talked about some potential fallout to the final episode of the first season, which ended with Butcher discovering his wife his alive... and raising Homelander's baby in secret. While the consequences of a superpowered child in the hands of the sociopathic Homelander is dangerous enough, Kripke also says it could drive a wedge between Butcher and Hughie (Jack Quaid), since Butcher can no longer claim to understand Hughie's experience of losing a loved one to superhero violence, a change from The Boys comics.

"Is there a way that we can still honor the comic, but then pull the rug out to say, 'They don't have the same backstory at all, they just thought they did?' If we could throw a left hook like that, we could really shock readers of the comic but also present this notion of, though these characters have so much in common, suddenly they find themselves in two different spaces," Kripke said. "What does that do to them heading into Season 2?"
