The official trailer for Bridgerton Season 2 teases forbidden romance, the search for Lady Whistledown and a love triangle between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate and Edwina Sharma.
Netflix shared the trailer with fans on Wednesday, March 9, just over two weeks before the show returns to the streaming platform.
Here, Newsweek break down the key moments from the trailer.
Anthony, Kate, and Edwina's Love Triangle
Bridgerton Season 2 is based on The Viscount Who Loved Me, the second of Julia Quinn's novels about the eponymous family.
In it, the book sees Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) decide to go in search of a wife in order to fulfil his duties as the Bridgerton heir, and he decides to set his sights on Edwina.
The trailer for the Netflix hit shows that this story will be much the same in the second season, with Anthony wanting to court Edwina (Charithra Chandran) but finding her sister Kate (Simone Ashley) trying to stop him at every turn.
Kate only wants Edwina to be happy and this isn't something that she thinks Anthony can giver her, but as she butts heads with the Viscount the pair start to kindle an unexpected passion for each other.
The pair start to share longing glances across the ballroom and end up in close proximity to each other in one scene, and the trailer sees Anthony admit to Kate that his "honour is hanging by a thread that grows more precarious every moment in [her] presence."
How the love triangle between the trio will play out is yet to be seen.
Forbidden Romance
On the subject of forbidden romance, the trailer offers more than just a look at the growing feelings of desire between Anthony and Kate.
In the trailer, Lady Whistledown's knowing voice is heard asking the question: "What happens when duty is in conflict with the heart's true desire? Why then there is the potential for a considerable scandal."
As she says this the trailer shows not only Anthony and Kate, but also his brother Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nichola Coughlan), and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) meeting with a young man named Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch).
Whether Lady Whistledown's warning is in reference to just Anthony and Kate, or if it represents more members of the ton shall be discovered when the show returns.
The Search for Lady Whistledown
And speaking of the queen of gossip herself, it appears the search for Lady Whistledown will also be a key plot point in Season 2.
Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) reveals that she is still determined to discover the real identity of Whistledown, no matter what plans she needs to concoct in order to do so.
Viewers know very well that it is Penelope who is Lady Whistledown after she was unmasked to the audience at the end of Season 1, but she may well be discovered if the regent has anything to say about it.
The trailer sees Queen Charlotte say that she feels "Lady Whistledown's words carry far too much import. We must entrap the scribbler."
Bridgerton Season 2 is released on Netflix on Friday, March 25.
