Britney Spears Conservatorship: Singer Attempts To Speed Up Hearing To Remove Father

The saga of Britney Spears' conservatorship still rumbles on. The conservatorship is still in place after 13 years, though in recent years the singer has been trying to change the terms to allow for more personal freedoms.

However, the tides changed recently when Britney Spears was granted the right to new counsel. She chose celebrity lawyer Mathew Rosengart, who has been pushing to make some big changes.

One of the most recent moves has been to speed up a hearing scheduled for September, in the hope that changes to the conservatorship may be made earlier, if the court decides to grant their requests.

In a filing made in July, Rosengart asked the court to appoint Jason Rubin as the conservator of the estate of Britney Spears, as well as the successor of this role.

This comes concurrently with a petition to remove Jamie Spears, her father, from his role as Conservator of the Estate.

In court documents, Jamie Spears' presence as Conservator of the Estate was named "extremely detrimental" to Britney Spears' well-being and best interests.

The filing read: "And given the uncontroversial basis for this petition, any father who genuinely loves his daughter and has her best interests at heart should willingly step aside in favor of the highly-respected professional fiduciary nominated here.

"Regardless, freeing Ms. Spears from the control of a conservator whose presence is inimical to his daughter's well-being cannot wait. Nor should it have to."

The filing goes on to suggest, if Jamie Spears were to object, this would "reveal his true priorities."

The hearing for this particular issue has been scheduled for September 29, but in a new filing on August 5, Rosengart requested it be moved up to August 23, or soon after that date.

He wrote in court documents, as reported in Variety: "In short, although a two-month wait for a hearing on the Petition may not seem significant in the context of 13 years, Ms. Spears should not be forced to continue to feel traumatized, lose sleep and suffer further. Every day matters."

Rosengart asked that, if the date cannot be moved, Jamie Spears should be suspended from his duties until the hearing takes place.

In other news, the director of documentary Framing Britney Spears has spoken out about Britney Spears' Instagram post, which said she felt "embarrassed" about some of the things included.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, director Samantha Stark said she "totally understands" Britney Spears' point of view, and wants to explain their view to her directly.

She also said the people making it were aware of the danger of "re-traumatizing" Britney Spears, but ultimately wanted those watching the have the full context of Britney Spears' situation.

Stark said: "Part of the reason it's called Framing Britney Spears is there are these still-photo frames that were humiliating to her. We thought it was really important to pull outside the frame because so many people had all these assumptions based on one frame, one still image that they saw.

"In the end, we felt like we had to put some of them in because we wanted people to have more context. We always tried to have her talk back to [the paparazzi] if we could. She 100 percent deserves to be mad that we're still looking at those photos, because it's ridiculous that we're still looking at them, and they shouldn't have been there in the first place."

The documentary has been nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special.

Though they were contacted, according to Stark, neither Britney Spears nor Jamie Spears agreed to be involved in the documentary.
