Britney Spears tied the knot with her long-time partner Sam Asghari last week at her home in California—but the ceremony was almost disrupted by her first husband Jason Alexander.
Alexander recorded himself breaking into the star's home on Instagram live last Friday as wedding preparations were underway, before being apprehended by security.
The pop star famously married Alexander, her childhood friend, in 2004 but the wedding was annulled after just 55 hours.
"She's my first wife, my only wife," Alexander could be heard saying during the recording.
Alexander was found to have an out-of-county warrant and was placed under arrest, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office confirmed. He was taken to a local jail.
"He was able to find his way onto the property and was confronted by security," a police spokesperson said, per Variety.
"An altercation occurred with the security officers and that's where the battery occurred... and during the altercation an item was broken, so that's where the vandalism comes into play. And by being on private property, the trespass comes into play."
What Has Jason Alexander Been Charged With?
On Monday, Alexander, 40, was issued a restraining order by a judge who set bail at $100,000.
He must stay at least 100 yards away from Spears for the next three years.
During a virtual hearing, Alexander was charged with felony stalking for the incident. He pleaded not guilty.
Alexander was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery, one count of misdemeanor vandalism and one count of misdemeanor trespassing following the incident.
Spears, 40, and Asghari, 28, wed last Thursday in a ceremony at their home where the guests included Madonna, Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Donatella Versace and other high-profile celebrities.
It was reported on Tuesday that the pop star's assets are well-protected in a prenup agreement in the event of her and model and actor Asghari ever splitting up.
Spears and Asghari, an Iranian-born actor and personal trainer, met in 2016 while she was held under a conservatorship by her family that included preventing the celebrity from getting married and having a baby.
The couple got engaged in September 2021 as her father filed to end the conservatorship, officially stopped by a judge in November.
Since the wedding, Spears told fans on social media that she is "still in shock" and said that "fairytales are real."
"WE DID IT !!! WE GOT MARRIED !!! Gggggeeeeezzzzz !!! It was the most spectacular day !!!" she wrote.
