How Britney Spears Has Spent Year of Freedom Since Conservatorship Ending

Britney Spears has now experienced one year of complete freedom from the controversial conservatorship which started a global fan movement.

On November 12, 2021, her conservatorship was officially terminated, meaning she was finally "free."

The legal restraints were initially imposed on Spears on Febuary 1, 2008 with her father Jamie Spears acting as a conservator on his daughter and her estate.

The "Free Britney" movement brought the arrangement to the public's attention, which eventually led to the situation being reevaluated.

The pop princess has seemingly enjoyed her first year of freedom, consistently updating her social media pages with statements about her family and risque nudes, among other things.

Here's a timeline of Britney Spears' first year of freedom.

November 12, 2021—Celebrating the End of the Conservatorship

On Friday November 12 last year, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled for Spears' conservatorship to be ended.

After the ruling Spears took to Instagram. "I love my fans so much, it's crazy!!!" she wrote. "I think I'm gonna cry the rest of the day!!!! Best day ever..."

In the following days she celebrated her newfound freedom with a simple dinner outing with her then-fiancé, Sam Asghari. Asghari has proposed the previous September and shared footage of the pair out together on his Instagram Stories.

Fans and celebrities voiced their support for Spears online, with Paris Hilton leading the online joy. "I'm so happy that this day has finally come. This moment is so long overdue. @BritneySpears is finally free!!!" the reality star wrote on Twitter.

December 2, 2021—Turning 40

The former teenage pop sensation turned 40 years old on December 2, 2021, and she celebrated in style with her fiancé.

She and Asghari boarded a private jet for a vacation together, with Spears documenting it on her Instagram account.

"Oh the precious joy today !!! Me and my fiancé are so excited to be going away," she wrote in the caption, "God thank you for being able to go out of the country !!!! I am blessed !!!!"

In an apparent reference to this being Spears' first birthday since the recent dissolution of her 13-year conservatorship, Asghari added: "Happy 1st birthday to my wife #dec2nd @britneyspears."

January 6, 2022—Posts First Instagram Nude

In what would become a trend for Spears, she celebrated her freedom by freeing her body on Instagram.

On January 6, Spears posted a fully nude photo to Instagram, with her modesty just about protected by emoji flowers.

"Free woman energy has never felt better," she captioned the photo and disabled comments. The post has since been deleted but Spears has posted many other nude photos, often using emojis to hide certain areas.

January 18, 2022—Jamie Lynn Spears' Book Release

Britney endured a public back and forth with her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears as the latter started her book tour.

During interviews promoting Things I Should Have Said, Jamie Lynn was frequently asked about Britney and the conservatorship. Jamie Lynn said in a Good Morning America interview that she "didn't understand" why the conservatorship was put in place.

Britney reacted angrily and wrote on Instagram that her sister was selling a book at her expense.

February 16, 2022—New Puppy

Spears melted hearts in February when she shared a video of her new puppy named Sawyer.

"I'm introducing the new edition to my family ... his name is Sawyer and he's a white Australian shepherd with blue eyes !!!!!" Spears wrote on Instagram, revealing that she found him in Maui.

February 23, 2022—Moving House

Spears felt it was "time for a change" in February as she announced she was moving out of the home she'd been in for seven years.

According to the Daily Mail, Spears and Asghari have now moved into an $11.8 million home in Calabasas. They reportedly completed the purchase in late June, 2022.

March 16, 2022—Deletes Instagram

Fans had been enjoyed Spears' documenting her new freedom on social media, but speculation began after she seemingly deleted her Instagram account in March.

Instagram reportedly stated they had not removed her account for any violations, implying Spears herself chose to take a brief hiatus.

It wasn't the first time her account became inactive, as she had told her fans in the previous September that she was stepping off of social media.

"Don't worry folks ... just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement !!!! I'll be back soon," she tweeted to her 55 million Twitter followers.

Spears didn't stay off of Instagram for long and she was soon back on the platform.

May 14, 2022—Pregnancy and Miscarriage

In April, Spears announced that she was having a baby, but unfortunately a month later, she and Asghari announced they she had suffered a miscarriage.

"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy," said the statement, signed by Spears and Asghari. "This is a devastating time for any parent.

"Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along. However we were overly excited to share the good news."

The couple said they intended to "continue trying to expand" their "beautiful family."

June 9, 2022—Marries Sam Asghari

Spears and Asghari had a drama-filled wedding day on which featured celebrity guests and an uninvited one.

Spears' first husband Jason Alexander reportedly crashed the wedding, and is said to have livestreamed his approach to the house.

"She's my first wife, my only wife. I'm her first husband, I'm here to crash the wedding," he apparently said on Instagram. He was later detained by Ventura County Police.

Despite the intrusion, the happy couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on June 9, 2022, at her home in Thousand Oaks, California which was attended by early aughts icons and A-List stars including Madonna, Donatella Versace, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, and Selena Gomez.

Two months later Spears said the celebrity guests were a surprise, and she thanks them all for attending her "fairytale wedding."

August 26, 2022—New Song with Elton John

In early August, it was revealed that Spears would be releasing new music for the first time in six years, though the news was slightly overshadowed by another public feud, this time with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

That dispute involved Federline releasing footage of Spears shouting at their two sons.

Later on, Spears teamed up with British legend Elton John to release a reworked summer hit, "Hold Me Closer."

"Hello Sir Elton John, we are like, number 1 in 40 countries," Spears wrote on Twitter after seeing how well the song had done after its release.

September 12, 2022—'Fat shaming' Christina Aguilera

Spears faced backlash in September for seemingly 'fat shaming' Christina Aguilera in a new Instagram post. "I mean if I had Christina Aguilera's dancers I would have looked extremely small... I mean why not talk about it ??" she wrote, in what seems like an insult aimed at the "Beautiful" singer's body.

Spears then backtracked on her comments and claimed she was not trying to be critical of Aguilera's "beautiful body."

November 8, 2022—Welcomes Husband Home

As Spears continued to post on social media, some of her fans became concerned that she was no longer in control of her own account.

They questioned why she posted old videos, and wondered why her husband Asghari wasn't it any of them.

Spears calmed her fans down by sharing a video of Asghari at home again.

"Here's my husband !!! He's been gone working !!! Supposed to be a week, but ended up being a whole month ... it was really hard," she wrote. Some fans didn't believe the video though, claiming the voice didn't belong to her.
