Bruce Springsteen may have just become a grandfather for the first time, but he was adamant he knew what name he doesn't want the baby to call him.
The music legend, 73, and his wife Patti Scialfa Springsteen, revealed the new addition to their family in July. Their youngest son, Sam, 28, and his partner recently welcomed daughter Lily Harper to the world.
Springsteen revealed his first grandchild was growing fast during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday. "Grandchild is no longer an infant, it is a baby," he said proudly. "And the amazing thing is that only takes about four months. They come home, they're like a little loaf of bread, except they don't say as much."
"The only thing I know is Patti is not going to be called 'grandma'," Springsteen added.
But when Fallon pointed out the baby would likely make up her own mind as to what she was going to call them, Springsteen said, "she can't speak yet, so we don't know what she'll call us."
He then joked: "I'm going for anything except, 'The Boss'."
"The Boss" is Springsteen's long-standing nickname that he picked up in the early 1970s when he formed the band that would eventually be known as The E Street Band. Springsteen was dubbed "The Boss" by his bandmates because he was responsible for collecting the band's nightly pay and then distributing it to everyone, according to multiple accounts.

Springsteen and Scialfa Springsteen married in 1991 and are also parents to Evan and Jessica. Scialfa Springsteen has performed in the E Street Band since 1984.
Their daughter, Jessica, is an Olympic medalist, winning silver for the U.S. in the equestrian team jumping event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Springsteen and The E Street Band are hitting the road again in 2023 for their first world tour in six years.
Springsteen last toured with the E Street Band in 2017 and will begin their newest tour in February with a date at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The tour will play Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Denver, Boston, Washington D.C., New York City and other U.S. cities through April before heading to Europe for a series of spring and summer stadium dates.
"After six years, I'm looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I'm looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year—and beyond!" Springsteen said in a statement when the tour was announced.
