Netflix is adding another baking series to its streaming service. On Monday, March 7th, the streaming giant released a trailer for Is It Cake? where each object is not as it seems.
Saturday Night Live cast member Mikey Day hosts a brand new series that shows off bakers' incredible artistic skills by turning any object into a cake. Once they are finished with their creations, a panel of celebrity judges will have to figure out which object is actually a cake. Celebrities and social media influencers who will make an appearance in the show are Rebecca Black, Heidi Gardner, Brittany Broski, Bobby Moynihan, King Princess, Michael Yo, and many others.
Other baking series on Netflix are Nailed It!, The Great British Baking Show, Baking Impossible, and Sugar Rush.
This new show is inspired by other cake artists on social media that post strange videos of normal-looking objects that are in fact cake. People have been making almost everything look real only to leave viewers bamboozled.
A wide variety of things have been turned into a cake, leaving many to wonder, "Is it real or is it cake?" On Tiktok, people have also been pranking their friends and family by "eating" rare objects one typically wouldn't eat, only for it to be a well-made cake.
As seen in the trailer, many of the celebrity judges seem stressed out as they try to quickly determine which object is real and which one is a yummy dessert. Each judge has a keypad where they punch in the number which corresponds to an object they think is the cake. The trailer also shows viewers what bakers will make during the season including shoes, handbags, hamburgers, and dinosaurs.
Andrew Fuller, Sam Cade, Dessiree Salaverria, Henu Basu, April Julian, Johnny Manganello, Nina Charles, Justin Rasmussen-Ellen, and Steve Weiss will compete in season one. At the end of the show, the three bakers standing will face off in the finale. They are competing to take home $50,000.
"I have won a lot of cake competitions," one determined baker said, "and I always like to win.
"What I do is the weirdest thing," said another contestant. "Like, there are people saving lives and I am making cake look like other things."
"I want to prove to people that I am the best of the best at what I do," said another baker, ready to win.
Is It Cake? is coming to Netflix on Friday, March 18th.
