California's Mosquito Fire has continued to grow on Wednesday, prompting officials to order evacuations for residents living near the fire's blaze.

"#MosquitoFire EVAC ORDER: Michigan Bluff north to Foresthill Road, east to Flight Strip, west to Bath Road. EVAC WARNING: Bath Road west to Todd Valley and north of Forest Hill Road to Elliot Ranch. SHELTERS: Foresthill Memorial Hall, Bell Baptist Church, Animal Shelter B Ave," the Placer County Sheriff's Office said in a tweet on Wednesday morning.

In a video update to residents, Placer County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Ty Connors said, "Currently, we do have some mandatory evacuations and evacuation warnings. Currently, the Baker Ranch area has been evacuated as far as being under a mandatory evacuation." Connors added that the Michigan Bluff area is also under a mandatory evacuation.

The mandatory evacuations come as the Mosquito Fire has grown to over 1,000 acres and is currently 0 percent contained, according to data from Cal Fire.

"The Mosquito Fire exhibited extreme fire behavior yesterday and continued to burn overnight in the vicinity of Oxbow Reservoir," Cal Fire said in a status update for the Mosquito Fire.

"Weather conditions today with near record high temperatures, very low relative humidity, and critically low fuel moistures which will provide extreme burning conditions which are expected to allow the fire to actively burn, with the potential for spotting.

"Firefighters assigned to tactical patrol will work to keep the fire within the current fire perimeter. However, very steep terrain will continue to challenge all personnel and make direct attack difficult."

The Cal Fire Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit Twitter account also notified residents of possible "drift smoke" from the Mosquito Fire.

"Placer County and surrounding areas, you'll be waking up to significant drift smoke this morning. The smoke is coming from the Tahoe National Forest Mosquito Fire. Currently 822 acres and 0% contained. The fire originated near Oxbow reservoir yesterday afternoon," the tweet said.

Cal Fire noted parts of California have continued to experience a wave of high temperatures over the past few days.

"Dangerous heat continues through Friday. This is an extremely long event and relief is still several days away," the National Weather Service in Los Angeles said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Los Angeles National Weather Service said that the Paso Robles Airport recorded a record-tying single-day temperature of 112 degrees Fahrenheit.

In addition to the Mosquito Fire, California is also fighting several other wildfires, including the Mountain Fire, which has burned over 11,000 acres and is currently 30 percent contained.
