Candace Owens Disputes Paul Pelosi Attack Story: 'It's a Little Bizarre'

Conservative commentator Candace Owens has suggested, during her latest podcast, that there is a cover-up regarding the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul.

The businessman and longtime husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was attacked in the couple's San Francisco home on October 28 by a Berkeley man, 42-year-old David Wayne DePape.

DePape broke into the home and allegedly attacked Pelosi, 82, with a hammer, fracturing his skull, while reportedly shouting about his intended target being Speaker Pelosi.

During her latest podcast episode, which was released on Monday, Owens suggested that there was more to the story and that information was being suppressed.

She then played a news story from a now-pulled NBC News report on the incident.

In NBC's reporting of the event, when police arrived, Paul Pelosi initially told police officers that everything was good and did not alert them that there was any danger.

He also then allegedly stepped away from police toward DePape before he was attacked.

According to a CNN report, NBC News pulled the report as it didn't meet its standards.

A Washington Post report also commented on NBC's pulled news story and stated the reporter on the story, Miguel Almaguer, provided an inaccurate account.

The report said it was inaccurate as it was based on flawed information provided by a source who went unnamed in the report, according to people at the network.

"[People at the network] said Almaguer was incorrect when he reported that the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave police no indication he was in danger when he answered the door.

"In fact, San Francisco police have said that Pelosi was struggling with the intruder, David DePape, when they first saw him," the Washington Post report read.

After playing the pulled NBC News clip, Owens said: "It might be relevant that Paul Pelosi, who we are supposed to believe is a victim and has his house broken into opened the door and told police that he was fine, it might be relevant to some of these lingering questions that we have.

"My question would be, was Paul Pelosi maybe at the bar with this guy? Did he invite him over for a little late night cocktail and things got a little haywire?

"That story would make sense to me. It was a little bizarre that the glass shards, when you are looking at them, apparently this is a break-in, are on the outside.

"But to ask these questions would make me a conspiracy theorist not a journalist. A question that every well-meaning journalist should be asking themselves.

"I don't know, we are never going to be able to find out, at least not until midterms are over because at all costs they must bury the story, we may not find out beyond that."

She closed by saying: "I would again like to stress that NBC deleted this video. So in case you are thinking there is a cover-up, it is because there clearly is a cover-up happening."

Claims of a Cover-up

A spokesperson for the office of Candace Owens spoke to Newsweek and reflected on the reason NBC pulled their initial report.

"When is the last time that NBC, which ran wall-to-wall coverage of the fictitious RussiaGate storyline for two years, plus censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, has been worried about inaccuracies?" the spokesperson told Newsweek.

"Please do not accuse them of journalism. Rather, there is an obvious and intentional cover-up surrounding the details of this case and NBC pulling the story is part and parcel of that media-wide cover-up."

Paul Pelosi was released from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital on November 3 and he is expected to have a long road to recovery, according to a statement issued by his wife.

DePape has been charged with multiple federal and state felonies, including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and burglary. He pleaded not guilty to all state charges on Tuesday, but has yet to enter pleas in federal court, and he remains in custody.

Update on 11/08/22 at 7:27 a.m. ET; This article was updated with information on the condition of Paul Pelosi and the charges against DePape.
