To many people, their pets are like their children, lavished with the finest foods, treats, toys and fuss.

One such lucky cat has an owner who has taken things even further, by building Meredith the cat her very own apartment in a room in her house. It is complete with a mini bed and a headboard, mini leather sofa and foot rest, and even a fireplace with small lights imitating a flame, complete with Christmas decorations. The door even has its own door number, '547'.

"My cat is living her best life in her little apartment," reads the caption, and in the video posted a day ago by @meredith.ragdoll, Meredith the ragdoll cat can be seen lounging on her bed, which even has tiny pillow and a comforter.

Ragdoll cats have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, but their origins go back to California in the 1960s, and a woman called Anne Baker.

"The Ragdoll may well have been a mix of the Burmese, Birman, and the Persian, but the cat credited as the original Ragdoll is a white cat named Josephine," reports Hill's Pet Nutrition. "For that reason, Ragdolls are also called the daughters of Josephine."

The story goes, that Baker felt that, in Josephine, she had a cat so gentle and placid, she went limp when she was picked up.

"This characteristic is the origin of the name. This name was copyrighted by Ann Baker and can only be used for this breed of cat," adds Hill's Pet Nutrition.

"The Ragdoll has extremely strict standards for color placement and the breed is not allowed any outcross in breeding. However, new colors are being introduced in this breed, so the Ragdolls seen now are even more colorful than in the past."

Due to their careful breeding, Ragdolls can cost between $800 and $4,000. Despite the high cost, that doesn't stop people from spending more money on their beloved pets, as Meredith's apartment shows.

"In 2022, Americans spent $136.8 billion on their pets, up 10.68% from 2021 ($123.6 billion)," said Forbes magazine.
