A cat's hilarious "trance" while waiting to finish his owner's milk has left the Internet in stitches.

Ginger and white cat Garfield lives with owner Lee in Illinois. A little over a year old, his hilarious antics have delighted many.

In the picture with over 18,000 upvotes on Reddit's r/aww subreddit, Garfield appears to be staring into the distance. The photo caption explains: "My cat in a trance waiting for me to finish my cereal for the leftover milk."

"Ever since I started letting him drink the last few drops of my milk, he sits and waits for me," Lee told Newsweek. "He usually finishes the milk, but he normally won't touch it if the cereal is chocolate."

Cats generally should not drink cow's milk, as many are lactose intolerant, meaning they lack the enzyme necessary to digest lactose.

Consuming milk can lead to digestive issues such as diarrhea, and while a small amount of milk may not harm all cats, it is safer to offer lactose-free alternatives designed for them if you're looking for a dairy treat.

But Lee clarified that Garfield barely has any milk when he finishes the cereal and explained: "I just hope people don't think I am giving him too much milk because I know it can be bad. It's normally a couple of laps before he drinks it all."

Garfield, though, doesn't seem too worried about any of the technicalities, in a trance with his mouth open, all he can think about is finishing the milk.

Last week, a cat that was denied a sip of milk captured social media attention for his sour response. Franklin's owner joked: "If looks could kill" in a viral video.

In hundreds of comments, cat lovers shared their reactions to Garfield's expression.

"Your cat wants cereal milk or has seen a lot of things," joked Bisonfan1.

"Kitty's mind looks completely blown," said relevantelephant00.

Some others even started to relate to the cat's expression. Lilithfantasy joked it was like: "Me looking at my credit card statement."

Some pet owners were impressed that Garfield was waiting for permission to drink the milk.

"That's cute, mine will put his paw in the bowl while I'm still eating," said mermaiden64. While vaccadicitmooooo added: "You're lucky that your cat actually waits."

"Aw, I used to give my old buddy my leftover milk every single time. It was the highlight of his morning," recalled CalebTheBryson.
