Sleep deprivation turned to comedy when 27-year-old Iñgio Marc was kept awake by an unusual feline culprit.
Marc, who lives in Paris, was visiting friends in New York City and spent the night at their Manhattan apartment—but he didn't get very much sleep.
"Their place consists of just one bedroom and a spacious living room, where they set up an inflatable bed for me to sleep. Coincidentally, this is where Peach's cat bed was located," Marc told Newsweek, recounting his night in the city.
As he tried to sleep on the inflatable bed, Marc was disturbed by his friends' cat Peach who was a little uncertain about the visitor being in her space.

Peach, whose namesake is the much-loved Princess Peach from the Mario Bros. video game, took her role as a night watchman quite seriously. Marc, amused by the constant vigilance of the feline, said: "Every time I pointed my phone's camera toward her in the dark, Peach was invariably looking straight at me. Initially, it startled me, but then it became rather comical, and I couldn't help but laugh."
While we might usually associate territorial behavior with dogs, cats are well-known territorial animals, often marking their preferred sleeping and eating spots with scent marking.
Whether your cat is interested in visitors or not depends on their personality. While some may be friendly toward people coming into the home, others will be reserved or even aggressive. Territories get particularly important when it comes to new animals in the house, like this cat who was introduced to a new arrival and made his feelings known.
After his sleepless night, Marc did confess that he is more of a dog person: "While I lean more towards being a dog person, I do have a deep affection for cats as well."
In fact, his evening with the cat seemed to have warmed him up to felines. "Peach, in particular, is very affectionate and endearing," he said.

Marc shared pictures of Peach's nighttime antics on TikTok. He said: "I thought it would amuse people, as I was sure many could relate to a similar situation."
Pictures were noted with the times they were taken, including 3 a.m., 4:35 a.m. and 5:53 a.m.
"She just wants to hang out," said sennicka, while user6531244832154 said: "You were under surveillance."
"Clearly you were in her spot," said Hapenkuluttaja, and Victoria K pointed out: "She didn't sleep well either."
