Chicago Fire Season 10, Chicago Med Season 7 and Chicago PD Season 9 have now all aired their winter finales, meaning the NBC shows are on hiatus for the next few weeks.

All three shows went out with a Christmas-themed bang. Chicago PD gave us a surprise "Upstead" wedding, Fire brought back Stella (played by Miranda Rae Mayo), while the events of Med left Will (Nick Gehlfuss) and Goodwin's (S. Epatha Merkerson) jobs on the line.

How will the shows tie up these storylines? The showrunners of each show have dropped some hints, but viewers still have a few weeks before the shows all restart for 2022.

When the Chicago Shows Return in 2022

All three shows are set to return on the same day, four weeks to the day after their winter finales aired.

That day is Wednesday, January 5, 2022, when the following winter premieres will air at the following times:

  • Chicago Med Season 7, Episode 10: 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT
  • Chicago Fire Season 10, Episode 10: 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT
  • Chicago PD Season 9, Episode 10: 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT

As ever, the episodes will be available to watch online on Peacock and Hulu shortly after first airing on NBC.

NBC has yet to release episode titles or a synopsis for these new episodes. The makers of each show, however, have given hints of what to expect when the shows come back next year.

Chicago Med

After Will taped Jessa's (Angela Wong Carbone) confession that Dr. Matt Cooper (Michael Rady) got illegal kickbacks, the hospital's Christmas party got raided by the FBI, with Matt and Jessa both arrested for fraud.

In a TV Insider interview, executive producers Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider teased: "After we come back from the break, there's going to be repercussions from what [happened]...Particularly for Will and Goodwin."

As for that kiss between Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) and Dr. Pamela Blake (Sarah Rafferty), that "continues to play coming back after the break," with Pamela's daughter Avery (Johann Braddy) as the third part of the love triangle.

Chicago Fire

TV Line quizzed showrunner Derek Haas about whether Stella was back for good. He said: "Yes, she's back for good, but she has a lot of explaining to do...The next batch of episodes, certainly, the driving force of them will be Stella Kidd's return to Firehouse 51 and all the offshoots of that."

One of those offshoots may be trouble in her relationship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Asked whether their engagement may be in trouble, he teased: "I would say that's a question worth asking, for sure."

Chicago PD

Asked by TV Line what might happen to Gabby Dawson (Tracy Spiridakos) and Matt Casey (Jesse Lee Soffer) after their surprise wedding in the winter finale, showrunner Gwen Sigan said: "The truth about them, and any relationship, is that the ring doesn't take away any complications/issues that are already there. These two have always been complicated — very much in love but also very different people. They each have flaws of their own, and we will continue to explore them."

Every episode of the Chicago shows so far is streaming on Peacock.
