Four people are dead, including a child, in an Easter Sunday shooting in Orlando, police said.

Officers responded to a domestic violence incident at a home in the 600 block of Grand Street at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith told reporters during a media briefing.

On arrival, officers heard gunshots from inside the home, the police department said in a news release.

"The suspect walked out of the house, walked towards the officers, shot at the officers. The officers returned fire and suspect fell," Smith said.

The man, who was not identified, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.
Smith said the officers entered the home and found three people inside with gunshot wounds.

Two adults died at the scene. Police transported a young child to the hospital, who died on arrival, Smith said.

No other information was released about the suspect or victims. Newsweek has contacted the Orlando Police Department for comment.

The two officers who shot the suspect were not hurt and will be on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, the police department said in the release.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct an independent review of the incident, followed by the State Attorney's office.

The Orlando Police Department will also conduct its own internal investigation.

Officers had their body worn cameras on during the incident and footage from those camera will be made available to the public within 30 days, per policy, the department said.

Sunday's gun deaths come as calls for gun control were reignited in the wake of a school shooting at a small, private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee, last month.

Three children and three adults were killed in the March 27 shooting, prompting thousands of students to protest gun violence at the Tennessee capitol and call for more gun control measures.

Tennessee Republicans on Thursday expelled two Black lawmakers—Justin Jones and Justin Pearson—from the state Legislature for their part in a protest calling for more gun control.

A third Democrat, Rep. Gloria Johnson, who is white, narrowly survived the vote on her expulsion.
