Being a dog owner means that no matter if you're gone for 10 minutes or 10 days, there is always a happy face waiting to greet you and welcome you home with open paws.
But one cockapoo's epic reaction to dad returning from work wins the internet as it brought in over 1.3 million views within the first three days of being posted.
This cocker spaniel and a poodle mix named Norman has the perfect setup. The couch is pushed up against the windows, which looks right out to the front yard. He stands guard on top of the couch with plenty of room to see who and what passes by the house.
Norman knew exactly who pulled up to the house as soon as he spotted a familiar car. He immediately started dancing even before the person stepped outside of the car. "Dad's home again," the caption reads.
Norman couldn't control his body movements. Not only was his tail moving at a rapid speed, but he was jumping up and down, twisting his body in ways that didn't even look possible for a dog.
The December 1 TikTok video quickly reached 31,300 likes and 445 comments with viewers obsessing over Norman's precious reaction to seeing his Dad.
"If happiness had fur," said one user.
Another viewer added: "If there's any more energy he's gonna propel himself to the moon."
Newsweek reached out via TikTok for more comment.
This must happen frequently because Norman went viral in February with a similar video. In that video, he stood in the same spot, shaking his entire body to greet his Dad. That video had over 7 million views.
Norman isn't the only dog that welcomes home their owner with big emotions. It is quite common for dogs, although Norman really puts on a show. There could be several reasons why your dog might get this excited when you return.
For starters, the bond between humans and dogs is very strong. Just as much as owners think of their dogs as part of the family, dogs return the same thought. This means dogs are capable of feeling true affection for their guardians. There is a reaction in their brain when they see a human they consider family, according to Animal Wised.
Dogs are bored when they are home alone and they don't get the mental or physical stimulation they need, or at least it is very minimal in comparison. When owners return, that's a signal to them that they will play or go on a walk, hence the excitement.
However, owners should be aware that sometimes the happy dances might be because of a dog's separation anxiety. The anxiety or stress kicks in when an owner is absent. Some symptoms include crying, destroying property, urination, or incessantly barking.
