Many dog owners miss their furry friends when they aren't with them and often the feeling is mutual, especially for a dachshund filmed eagerly waiting at the window for his owner.

The dog, Arlo, sits on the sofa and starts wagging his tiny tail as soon as he sees his owner outside. So far, the footage, shared to a page dedicated to the dog (@arlo22151), has received 154,300 views.

The on-screen text says: "Always knows when daddy [is] home."

Previously, Newsweek spoke to veterinarians about signs indicating that you are your dog's favorite person. The eight telltale signs are:

  • They want to be near you.
  • They wiggle at you.
  • They keep eye contact with you.
  • They rub their face on yours.
  • They are relaxed around you.
  • They are affectionate with you.
  • They follow you everywhere.

It seems that Arlo's owner is one of his favorite people, based on his reaction to his return. The heartwarming clip has racked up over 10,000 likes, and other owners have commented to say their dog does the same.

One user said: "My wiener dog [does] the same exact thing every time her Grammy comes in the house and act like I don't even exist, and will ignore me."

Kait Hembree, a veterinary behavior nurse and GoodPup's head of training and behavior specialist, previously told Newsweek how owners can strengthen their bond with their canine companion.

She said the best way to a dog's heart is through its stomach, along with playful interactions and spending quality time together.

In another clip, Arlo is referred to as a "daddy's boy" as he snuggles next to him on the sofa.

Newsweek previously spoke to a professional dog trainer expert about the signs that indicate a dog doesn't like its owner. It turns out that reading a dog's emotions may not be as easy as you might think. Some dogs are more fearful than others, meaning owners may simply mistake their temperament.

"Dogs that may not make a big stink over the owner when they come through the door just means their temperament is different," said professional dog trainer Sally Grottini. "They may have an alpha temperament. In a case like that, the owner is just part of a pack.

She added: "The best way to bond with your dog is to teach as many commands or cues to the dog as possible so it knows what to expect and what is coming next."

Newsweek reached out to @arlo22151 for comment via TikTok and could not verify the details of the case.
