Shangela has opened up to Newsweek about Dancing With the Stars head judge Len Goodman's announcement that he is leaving the show after 31 seasons.

The Ru Paul's Drag Race favorite, who returns to HBO for We're Here Season 3 alongside Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka next week, has been competing in the ballroom competition with professional partner Gleb Savchenko.

Shangela and Savchenko have wowed Goodman and his fellow judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, making it all the way to the grand finale where they will compete against Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, and Charli D'Amelio and Mark Ballas.

It was during the Disney+ show's semifinal on Monday (November 14) that Goodman, who was been a judge on Dancing With the Stars since 2005, confirmed he would not be returning next year.

Speaking to Newsweek the day after the news was announced, Shangela spoke about their experience with the 78-year-old ballroom legend.

"All of the pro dancers, everyone associated with the show, is going to miss him. There's never going to be anyone like Len Goodman," the star told Newsweek.

Shangela added that, although there will now be spot free on the panel, they won't be joining the show as a judge soon, saying: "I know for sure that I am not yet qualified. No ma'am!"

On making it to the finale, Shangela, who received support from Lady Gaga during the competition's semifinals, said: "I feel so grateful to be in this moment.

"To be the first drag entertainer on the U.S. version of Dancing With the Stars, to be the first male-on-male partnership here, it's really special for us to now have this visibility and this moment in the finale."

Revealing why he is stepping back from his duties Goodman, who runs a ballroom dance school in the U.K, said on Dancing With the Stars that he had decided "to spend more time with [his] grandchildren and family back in Britain."

Meanwhile, Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen and Eureka are preparing for the new installment of HBO's We're Here.

The Emmy Award-winning series follows the trio of drag queens as they continue their journey across small-town America, spreading love and connection through the art of drag.

Dancing With the Stars, co-hosted by Tyra Banks and Alfonso Ribeiro, airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Disney+. Episodes will be available to stream an hour after their original airing.

We're Here Season 3 begins on Friday, November 25, at 10 p.m. ET on HBO. Episodes will debut weekly on HBO and will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
