David Depape, the suspect accused of attacking Paul Pelosi, previously sent "really disturbing" emails to a woman he knew.

On Friday, the San Francisco Police Department identified Depape, 42, as the man who broke into Pelosi's home in San Francisco and allegedly attacked the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

While speaking with CNN on Friday, Linda Schneider said she knew Depape several years ago in Berkeley, California. Schneider said that Depape would housesit for her occasionally while he was living in a storage unit. Schneider told CNN that Depape sent her "really disturbing" emails. According to Schneider, Depape's emails made him sound like he was "out of touch with reality" and also discussed "biblical justification to do harm." She eventually ended her communication with Depape, telling CNN that "it seemed so dangerous."

Prior to the San Francisco Police Department confirming Depape's identity, Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi, reported the incident on Friday morning. "Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi. The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation," Hammill said.

"The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time," the statement added.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott provided some further details during a press conference on Friday, saying that officers were called to Pelosi's residence at around 2:30 a.m. local time. When officers arrived, they found Depape and Pelosi holding a hammer.

"The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it....Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup and rendered medical aid," Scott explained.

According to Scott, Depape was charged with elder abuse, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted homicide. He is also facing other additional felony charges, Scott said. A motive for the incident is still unknown and the U.S. Capitol Police Department in Washington, D.C., and the FBI are currently assisting with the investigation.

Following the arrest on Friday, CNN also spoke with another individual who knew Depape and said that he was living in a storage shed several years ago and would sell bracelets.

"He was very odd. He didn't make eye contact very well," Laura Hayes, who previously worked with Depape, told CNN. Hayes also said that she remembered Depape telling her that "he talks to angels and there will be a hard time coming."
