A deaf dog named Boo has melted hearts on social media after a video of her reacting with excitement to being woken up by her owner went viral.
In the clip shared on TikTok on Thursday, the dog's owner, who goes by the username Boothedeafboxer, can be seen gently waking up the boxer with a pat on the shoulder before waving at her, and the dog reacted with excitement, waving its tail.
Deafness is actually quite a common issue for dogs. According to Bishops Stortford Veterinary Hospital, based in England, many breeds like Dalmatians, collies and Great Danes, among others, carry a gene that can cause deafness. This is often associated with a white or merle coat color and blue eyes.

Other reasons for deafness in dogs are long-term ear infections or growths in the middle ear or external ear canal, and the medication given by veterinary surgeons to treat these conditions. Head trauma and brain tumors can also be potential causes.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) estimates that about 5 to 10 percent of dogs in the U.S. suffer from deafness, either in one ear or in both ears, but luckily most dogs with hearing issues cope well with their disability.
The video which has been viewed over 713,700 times and liked more than 64,200 times, comes with a caption that says: "How I wake my deaf dog up when I go home. She gets so excited."
