Desiigner Says He's 'Done Rap' After Takeoff Shooting Death

Desiigner has appeared to call quits from rap following the news that Takeoff of the hip-hop group Migos had been shot and killed in Houston early Tuesday morning.

The hip-hop star took to Instagram as news of Takeoff's shooting death circulated on social media.

"I'm done rap," Desiigner simply wrote in one Stories post, along with fingers crossed and prayer emojis.

The Brooklyn-born rapper also took a heartbreaking video of himself reacting to the news while crying.

"I can't even call [Quavo], I can't even call Offset," Desiigner said through tears, referring to Migos' other founding members.

Later, he added: "I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. I can't live like this no more."

A 30-second video clip of Desiigner's raw response quickly went viral, gaining more than 1.3 million views by late Tuesday morning.

Shortly after the shooting in Houston, video of the aftermath began to spread on social media. Footage showed Takeoff lying on the ground at a bowling alley after the influential rapper was fatally shot at around 2:30 a.m. He was 28.

Quavo appeared to walk away from the incident uninjured. The two had reportedly been playing dice prior to the shooting. One witness was quoted to have said that Takeoff had been "[minding] his business all night."

Takeoff performed with Quavo and Offset under the banner Migos, and the trio released a mixtape in 2011, Juug Season.

Born Sidney Royel Selby III, Desiigner debuted hit "Panda" in late 2015. The single reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Desiigner also recently paid tribute to another slain rapper.

On September 12, he posted a picture to his Instagram account of the late PnB Rock, with the caption "ROCK 4EVA." The hip-hop artist died at 30 after getting shot while out for lunch with his girlfriend in Los Angeles.

Other hip-hop artists and fans mourned Takeoff's death on social media. Former G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks posted a photo of the star on Twitter.

"Rest In Peace Takeoff," Banks wrote in a tweet. "[M]y condolences 💐 to his family and close friends, very dope artist gone too soon."

Earlier this month, it appeared that Migos had officially dissolved, with members Takeoff and Quavo staying together as the pair Unc & Phew. The duo recently released an 18-track album, Only Built for Infinity Links, to positive reviews.

Hours before his shooting death, Takeoff tweeted a clip of the duo's new music video for their single "Messy."

"MESSY VIDEO OUT NOW," Takeoff wrote, adding a link to the video and three infinity symbol emojis.
