According to the Humane Society Naples, dogs love playing fetch because it's instinctive for them. That's because many dogs were specifically bred to retrieve certain items for their human owners, so even now, these dogs still have this ingrained disposition to chase after objects, pick them up in their mouth and bring them back.
It also makes them happy because it's something they're naturally really good at, and when you play fetch with your dog they're able to show off their ingrained capabilities.
It's also a way they get to spend quality time with you. Enjoying extended playtime with their owner as they get to chase after frisbees and sticks really is a dream come true for many dogs.

The video quickly attracted attention from animal lovers, receiving over 2.2 million views and 278,600 likes so far.
One user, anonmurray, commented: "He's like 'Looks like a stick to me."
Angela Rinehart said, "It's a stick with a little razzle dazzle," while Argeiris wrote, "What do you mean? that looks like a stick to me."
Muffy Marracco said: "Lincoln is a rail splitter at heart."
Myname Archer wrote: "Hahhahahaa one time my cat ran up to me with a LIVE COPPERHEAD sticking out of his mouth like a joust.
Another user, Heather Renee joked: "Woke up and chose violence."
