It's generally accepted that domesticated animals can experience varying degrees of boredom that can lead to behavioral and potentially health issues. While it's not always possible to take beloved pets everywhere, it is possible to keep them entertained while home alone.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) writes that: "A bored dog will make his own fun. And most likely in ways that don't work for you. When left to their own devices, bored dogs will chew furniture and shoes, shred pillows, or even unroll your toilet paper. Whatever they can find to pass the time. And because you're not there to stop them, it's all the more exciting."
The AKC suggests that if you get home and see signs like chewed cushions, holes dug in the garden or tipped over trash cans, then it's possible your dog has been bored while you've been away.
It's important that your dog is getting enough mental stimulation so the AKC suggests playing games with your dog before you leave the house.
"Activities like hide and seek, where your dog has to find you, or tug-of-war let you play together and build your bond. Scent games where you hide treats or toys around the house are also fun boredom busters."
They also suggest leaving stuffed squeaky toys around the house for your pooch to find, or toys that you can hide treats in.
"Whatever toys you give your dog, be sure to rotate them frequently so your dog stays interested. Even an old toy seems new and exciting when your dog hasn't seen it for days."
TikToker Victoria commented: "I couldn't look at my cat left alone on camera. I'd never leave the house again."
Ali Balch, wrote: "Aww bless…they pull on the heart strings don't they."
User Brady joked: "I don't even have a dog and I feel like I need to check on my non-existent puppy."
