Denver Animal Protection is attempting to locate the person who dropped off an extremely sick dog to an after-hours kennel. The animal died just hours after.

The white and brown American bulldog was captured on surveillance footage in the early hours of January 21 being dropped off by a driver of a silver Honda Odyssey minivan with black wheels.

Now, the DAP is attempting to locate the individual to ask questions about the dog and the condition in which it arrived. Denver Police helped share the crime alert through a social media post.

"Once it was found by our animal care attendant in our night-drop kennel, they determined that the dog was what we'd like to refer to as laterally recumbent," animal protection officer Daniel Ettinger told Denver7.

"So the dog would not get up, was not mobile and then it just showed signs of being lethargic or unable to really move or show signs of having any sort of energy."

"We have some concerns on the condition that the dog was found in, and so it's important that we talk to the individual who brought it to the shelter," he said.
The DAP was unable to give any details to Denver7 about the condition of the dog, but added that there could be legal consequences if they learn any more information.

"If we determine this to be a crime and there are charges filed on the city level, that person responsible for the dog's death, or the actions leading up to the death or how the dog died, they could be punished up to 300 days in jail and/or $999 in fines," Ettinger said.

The DAP requests that anyone who may have information contact Crime Stoppers on 720-913-7867 or via metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Individuals are able to remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Crime Stoppers assign a code to people who anonymously contact them and the information is then passed on to law enforcement. Crime Stoppers are alerted of the conclusion of the investigation.

The information provided via tips is then reviewed and if any led to an arrest, the anonymous tipster is notified. Financial rewards can be collected using the code numbers provided at the initial part of the process.

"I would like to talk to the individual who brought the dog in because it ultimately passed away in an unfamiliar place," Ettinger told Denver7. "It was brought into a place that wasn't its home in the last few hours of its life."
