The phrase "good things come to those who wait" seems to be true for one dog, who finally found her forever home after 246 days in a shelter.

Krispy Kreme, a Staffordshire terrier, was surrendered to The Lost Dogs' Home because her owner was unable to care for her, but the staff had no idea she would be there for so long.

Suzana Talevski, a shelter volunteer, told Newsweek: "With so many dogs at our shelters, Krispy's adoption took much longer than we would have liked.

"But we never gave up on Krispy and knew that her perfect life with a new family was just around the corner."

On November 24, the shelter based in Melbourne, Australia, shared the happy news on their Facebook page and received 1,100 likes.

Talevski told Newsweek: "She has such a beautiful nature and we are beyond delighted to know she is now in her happy place for the rest of her life."

The social media post explained Krispy was adopted by a couple called Bea and John, who had relocated from Sydney, Australia.

An excerpt from the post said: "When Bea and John first met Krispy Kreme they were 'smitten from the moment they first saw her' and just knew that she was going to fit right into their lives."

The popular post also includes a quote from Bea, who said: "Krispy Kreme must have been feeling home sick without knowing where home was, and that's how we felt when we moved from Sydney. We understood each other and I think we found each other at the right time."

The shelter concluded the post by expressing their happiness and wishing the trio "the best life ever."

So far, the heartwarming post has uplifted the internet and received over 130 comments.

One user said: "That has made me so happy!"

"Oh, wonderful. I have been watching her for a long time too. But have a dog already, so no go. So glad she was adopted by a wonderful couple," said another user.

Another said: "This has made my week. Congratulations."

Some shelter dogs do not make their lucky escape until years after they arrived. Newsweek previously published an article about four dogs who have been in a shelter for a total of 1,824 days and are still looking for a family to call their own.

But dogs like Nova are living proof that dreams do come true as she found a forever home after an extremely long wait.
