A video of a dog looking excited about its snow suit has gone viral on TikTok, where it received 5.1 million views at the time of this writing.

The clip, posted by TikTok user @abroer, shows a Staffordshire bull terrier wearing a black and blue-colored jumpsuit, with its head and tail sticking out of it.

The video was shared with a message overlaid on it that read: "When the snow stars flying and the snow suit comes out," as the dog is seen jumping around in the suite, from one end of a room to the other end.

Keeping your dog safe during the winter is crucial because the wind chill, combined with dampness, rain, sleet or heavy, wet snow, can be fatal, veterinarians Dr. Krista Williams and Dr. Robin Downing warned in an article for VCA, one of North America's largest animal hospital chains operating over 1,000 animal hospitals.

Short-haired dogs like the Staffordshire bull terrier, along with very young and senior dogs, face the greatest risk for issues related to exposure to cold, the veterinarians said.

A study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the results of which were presented in November 2015 at the American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics, stated that "the trapping of air in hairy surfaces and the water-repellent properties of undeformable hairy textures" is key for thermal regulation in animals.

Alice Nasto, the study's primary researcher and a doctoral student of mechanical engineering at MIT, said: "The denser and the longer the hairs are, the dryer or the more water-repellent the hairy surface is. Since the thermal conductivity of air is much smaller than that of water, trapping a layer of air in hairy surfaces reduces thermal conduction, which keeps animals warm in cold water."

The latest video has delighted users on TikTok, with some left in stitches.
