Adorable footage of a German shepherd frolicking in the snow is proving a hit with dog lovers the world over.

In a video posted to TikTok by his owner, Sara Onderwater, the captivating canine can be seen attempting to make what might just be the world's biggest snowball.

Either that, or this doggo has plans to make his very own snowman.

The clip was posted to the social media platform alongside a caption that reads: "But does your dog make giant snowballs?"

On the video, Onderwater and an unspecified male can be heard chuckling away as they watch the dog diligently going about his business from inside the warmth and comfort of their home.

The bracing elements appear to have no effect on this particular canine, who is solely focused on the job at hand and evidently eager to make the most of the snowy conditions.

His antics have proven a huge hit on TikTok, with the video amassing more than 16 million views. The video can be viewed here.

Fans were full of praise for his efforts.

"That's the most resourceful doggo I've ever seen," SandyMarie962 wrote.

Another fan, posting as Michael Miller, commented: "Build that snowman for me in Oklahoma no snow here just sand." Mara Torgerson, meanwhile, was convinced the dog was "definitely a little kid in her past life."

Lisaaasimpsonaaa was blown away by the dog's efforts, asking Onderwater: "How does he know how to do that?" Onderwater replied: "It's a German Shepherd thing. They do crazy stuff every day."

Elsewhere, a user posting as Gary M asked the dog's owner to repost the clip with "I Wanna Build A Snowman" from Frozen layered over the top of it.

Onderwater was only too happy to oblige. That clip can be viewed here.

According to Haus Amberg Shepherds, a family-based kennel that specifically breeds German shepherd dogs, there are multiple reasons why dogs of this kind enjoy playing in the snow.

Alishia Lockett from the kennel writes: "Dogs love to investigate their environment, and snow provides a dog with a new, exciting experience. The new texture that's blanketing his once familiar environment stimulates some creative play. Predators love change.

"Dogs get more energy as the temperature cools and are able to run and play for longer periods of time without overheating.

"Your dog is designed more for insulation from the cold than cooling down in the heat. German shepherds are built to withstand cooler temperatures. They have a double coat that is water resistant and a great insulator against the cold."

The video comes hot on the heels of a clip showing several golden retrievers "swimming" through thick snow in footage that had the internet in stitches.

Elsewhere, a Husky's priceless reaction to his owner's cat trying to catch a bird that appeared on a TV screen has proven similarly popular.
