An abandoned dog has been reunited with all of her puppies in Rio Grande Valley, Texas, after they were dumped in an alley.

Jessica, a dog rescue worker in the area, was alerted to an abandoned dog with three puppies late one night thanks to a Facebook post.

When her mom found the post on Facebook and sent it to her, Jessica sprung into action and contacted the poster.

"I right away contacted the lady who had them posted," Jessica told Newsweek.

But the news she got next was a little disheartening. One of the puppies was taken by a woman down the street, and the other by a man nearby. This left one puppy and a heart-broken mom without a home.

Determined to reunite the puppies and their mother, Jessica embarked on a mission to locate the missing pups. "I then asked her to please not let anyone else take them and to go ask the lady for the second puppy," Jessica said.

Through persistence and resourcefulness, Jessica managed to retrieve the second puppy: "When I went out there she was able to get me the second puppy back from the lady," she said.

With two puppies and their mom safely being cared for, Jessica wasn't going to stop there, and began searching for the whereabouts of the third.

"I went to the Facebook post looked for everyone wanting a free puppy. That's how I found the third one," Jessica said.

A man had taken the third puppy and was refusing to give the dog to Jessica.

"A friend of mine then messaged him because he was not wanting to give her to me. She then offered him $50 and right away he said OK," she explained.

The reunion between the mother dog, April, and her lost puppy was a moment of pure joy. "I named the mama April, she was so sad not having her third puppy. You can see in the video how that changed once she saw her pup," Jessica said.

Reflecting on the experience, Jessica stressed the importance of raising awareness about the challenges faced by animals in her community. "I would love their story to be shared because I want people to know how bad it is for animals in this area," Jessica said, urging for support to address the issue of animal abandonment and neglect in Rio Grande Valley.

An ABC 5 News report from 2022 said that the stray dog population "here in the Valley" had "grown out of control."
