A video of a dog that seems to be strongly attached to a hot water bottle has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by Dora and Teddy (@a_dora_bull), the TikTok account of a Staffordshire bull terrier "with her little Bro in tow," according to the profile.

A caption shared with the post says: "Just a Staffy in PJs carrying her Hot Water Bottle around!"

The footage shows a dog wearing what appears to be a onesie outfit and walking around a floor while carrying the water bottle in her mouth. The pup is later seen jumping onto a couch, walking around and wagging her tail, before lying down with her water bottle in front.

The pup's apparent attachment to her water bottle is not surprising because some dogs can display "possessive aggression" when it comes to their favorite objects.

This is a form of "aggression that is directed toward humans or other pets that approach the dog when it is in possession of something that is highly desirable, such as a favorite chew toy, food, or treat," said veterinarians Debra Horwitz and Gary Landsberg in an article for VCA, one of North America's largest animal hospital chains.

A dog's obsession with an object can also be linked to its novelty. A November 2012 study published in Animal Cognition said that "domestic dogs are reported to show intense but transient neophilia towards novel objects."

The study, conducted among Labrador retrievers, found that "loss of interest in the object during object-orientated play in this species is due to habituation to the overall stimulus properties of the toy rather than to any single sensory modality."

In the VCA article, Horwitz and Landsberg said: "Novel and highly desirable objects, such as a tissue that has been stolen from a garbage can, a favorite toy, human food or a piece of rawhide are some of the items that dogs may aggressively protect."
