A video showing the expressions on a dog's face while being told of his upcoming canine play date has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was posted by @bennythegoldennn, the TikTok account of a golden retriever named Benny, and has had 3 million views since it was posted five days ago.

A message overlaid on the video reads: "Telling Benny his gf [girlfriend] is sleeping over tomorrow."

A caption shared with the post says: "She better not be lyin'." The footage shows the golden retriever tilting his head and curiously staring at the camera while being told of the different activities the pair may get up to.

Canine friends can form strong bonds with each other, according to a March 2019 study published in Scientific Reports.

The study found that "dogs can form relationships of comparable qualities with both humans and other dogs, and that these relationships vary along multiple components across different partners."

According to the study, "overall dogs refer more to their owner," but "some dogs form stronger affiliative bonds with conspecifics [members of the same species] than with their owner."

A voice in the viral clip says: "Quincy's gonna come sleep over. She's gonna come cuddle with you and maybe play...go get pup cups together..." The dog in the video is seen looking at the camera, appearing to grin with his teeth showing at one point.

The voice asks: "Are you excited? Are you happy?" before the pup is seen jumping towards the camera. The voice then says: "Yeah, can't wait...hurry up," while a hand rubs the dog's face as the clip ends.

The dog's reaction in the viral clip has delighted users on TikTok.

Chloe says: "bro is like you better not be joking i won't believe you till i see it."

Chrissie noted: "OMG that intense stare and head tilt of listening!!! So freaking cute!!!!!"

User bellaboo2 wrote: "Full concentration, taking in every word, he is just so sweet."

Cms2600 said: "Focused and smiling at the same time."

Samantha Renee noted: "He said: THE PERFECT DATE!"
