We'd all like a perfect holiday video of our pet doing something cute, but realistically, the chances are they'll be naughty and spoil it for us. A veterinarian caught her dog's hilarious reaction to seeing Christmas decorations on camera, and the footage has gone viral on social media.

In the video, posted on TikTok on Tuesday by the dog's owner under the username Celina.bianchini2, the border collie can be seen sitting at the back of her car, barking at a display of Christmas lights, before trying to attack a mini Christmas tree.

The viral post comes with a caption that says: "POV: you tried to get a cute vid of your dog Christmas light looking."

Some Christmas decorations can be a hazard when you have pets around. According to the Kennel Club, tinsel, ornaments and fairy lights may appear to be great toys to your dog, but they can cause an obstruction, or even puncture their stomach.

This doesn't mean you can't decorate your home, but to help keep your dog safe around your Christmas tree, first you need to choose your tree carefully, and you might want to go for an artificial one so it won't drop any needles.

It's also advised that you tether your tree to the wall or ceiling to prevent it from being knocked over by your curious pet. Putting a pet gate or tree guard around the tree also helps prevent your dog from getting to it.

The Kennel Club says it's better to keep the bottom branches bare, and that dangerous lights, tinsel and ornaments should all be placed high up where your dog can't reach them. Electric cables should also be taped to prevent your dog from chewing them.

But most of all, you should not hang any chocolate coins, sweets, popcorn, or salt-dough decorations on your tree, as these can cause health issues when ingested.

The video has quickly attracted animal lovers from all over the platform, receiving more than 691,300 views and 130,000 likes so far.

One user, Maddi Burnett, commented: "I CACKLED at the bark knowing full well my dog would be the same." And Mellsy said: "He just shouting 'I LOVE YOUR LIGHTS!!"

Another user, taliaellen0, wrote: "My dog barked for solid 5 minutes at a light up reindeer." And Ashlee Grace said: "BROO MY DOG JUMPED OUT THE WINDOW WHILE SANTA WAS THERE AND PEED ON A CANDY CANE."

Skye added: "My dog thinks he's a guard dog but pees while he's barking. We will not be attempting Christmas lights this year lol."
