A dog named Chubbs has left the internet in stitches after a video of him using dog buttons to alert his mom he needed to go outside went viral on social media.

The viral clip shared on TikTok earlier this month by the dog's owner, under the username Chubbs_waggs, shows the pit bull, who had a bad stomach ache, pressing his dog buttons, in a bid to wake his mom up so she could take him outside.

It came with a caption that says: "Poor little guy. Chubbs had a bad belly. Apparently, I was fast asleep. He pushed so many buttons trying to wake us up. I finally heard his words. He needed to go outside! This talking dog is a good boy. He got extra praise and loves for telling us."

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) dog buttons are an adaptive speech technology that allows you to train a dog to actually "speak" using pre-recorded words.

Teaching a dog how to use these buttons is a process that takes patience and consistency, and dogs who are rushed in the training process are less likely to independently use the buttons to communicate.

The first thing to do would be to start with words that your dog has already an association with and enjoys doing, like "walk" for example, after recording the word you will need to press the button before doing the activity to which it relates, and over time the dog will understand the relation between the two.

The AKC says your goal isn't to force your dog to push the button or even to directly teach your dog to push the button in the way that you might for a button-pushing trick, you want your dog to mirror you.

The video has attracted many dog lovers from all over the platform, receiving over 740,800 views and 53,500 likes.

One user, Misty commented: "Always mommy first!" And Andrew Martinez said: "You need a button that makes that weird gagging noise that pets do. I can hear my cat doing that from across the house."

Another user, Chelsea wrote: "The way my dogs would've just peed or shit in the house." And Ashleigh Lynn said: "My dog will stand over me and bark till I wake up." Victoria added: "my boy comes by the bed and puts his paw [on] my arm when he has to go out at night."

Monabearbear commented: "Awwww buddy!! Also, I love that "daddy" was like the 20th option he chose." And Karissa Snowden added: "When he pressed 'bye' he was trying his best!"

Lovelife79 wrote: "So sweet. My 1 dog will sit & stare into my soul while I sleep if she needs to go potty while sleeping & yes I def feel it."
