Many people get a dog because they love the warm welcome they're given whenever they return home, but that certainly wasn't the case for a resident in Arizona who was horrified by what she saw as she walked inside.
After returning from a night out, TikTok user @presslyset spotted a tiny piece of trash on the floor, courtesy of her mischievous pup who decided it needed chewing instead. While she exclaimed "What is that?" at the tiny mess in the hallway, the welcoming committee had a far bigger surprise in store for her once she looked in the kitchen.
After @presslyset, from Phoenix, looked up, it suddenly dawned on her that her dog had been far busier than it previously appeared, because she'd chewed much more than just one piece of trash. Since the hilarious clip was posted on November 13, it has amused plenty of social media users as it's already been viewed more than 2.7 million times and received over 249,100 likes.
Many dog owners will be familiar with the cleanup routine after the dog decides to turn any household item into their newest toy. But, as frustrating as it may be, destructive behavior may actually be a sign of stress or anxiety if the dog is left alone for too long.
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs experiencing separation anxiety may bark, urinate inside, pace around, or destroy things in the house. If these are regular habits for a dog whenever they're left alone, the AKC recommends creating a safe area for them, giving them positive associations with their alone time, and gradually increasing the length of time they're left for rather than throwing them in at the deep end.
Dogs need regular socialization and companionship, so if they're going to be left alone for more than six hours, it can be advisable to have someone check on them or take them somewhere else for a few hours.
Alongside the viral video, @presslyset joked that she had "come home drunk" and thought that her dog "only chewed up 2 pieces of trash" at first. However, that realization quickly changed when she spotted the wreckage that was once her kitchen, which would have quickly sobered her up.
There's little doubt that she wasn't impressed by what her dog had been working so hard on while she went out to celebrate the holidays, as she wrote: "What a bad girl."
While she may have been horrified by the discovery, it certainly brought a smile to many other people's faces after she shared the footage online. The post has already amassed hundreds of comments at the time of writing, with plenty of people lauding the dog's antics and insisting he did nothing wrong.
One joking comment reads: "You both partied, I don't see the problem."
Another TikTok user responded: "I'm grabbing another beer and worrying about it tomorrow at that point."
"Girl, the realization almost sobers you up," wrote another commenter.
